Description Surprisingly multi-faceted, mag 10.4 spiral galaxy NGC 1398 features a transversal bar with a very bright central core, all within a bright circular central spiral structure which is easily mistaken for the full extent of the galaxy. There is a very faint outer set of blue spiral arms however, that brings the total size up to 7.1 x 5.3 arcminutes.
Exposure LRGB 90:30:40:60 min @ -15°C
Camera SBIG ST-10XE selfguided + CFW-8 with Astronomik RGB Filterset, no filter was used for the L-channel.
Optics RCOS 14.5" Ritchey-Chrétien @ f/9 (prime focus)
