Designation |
NGC 247, Bennett 3 |
Constellation |
Cetus (Cet) |
Description |
This large, nearly edge-on spiral
galaxy belongs to the nearby Sculptor group (see NGC 55, NGC 300, NGC 253,
NGC 7793). All
are late-type spirals and they form the nearest collection of galaxies
outside of our own. NGC 247 is fairly faint and features an
ill-defined center, a prominent star on its southern edge and a
"void" on the northern side.
There is also a higher resolution
image taken with a 14.5" RC telescope.

First light for the MN106 ! Still some issues with
centering of the focuser and getting good flats.
