CH Cygni campaign
Updated: April 08, 2012
Low and high resolution spectra are requested thoughout March 2012 of the symbiotic variable CH Cyg in preparation for and in support of Chandra and HST observations scheduled for March 2012. Regions of particular interest are: Halpha, Hbeta, O[III] 4959/5007 and 4363 , the continuum around 5470, [SII] 6731, He I 5876, He II 4686. Margarita suggest to make CONTINUOUS high resolution spectra in Halpha with a 600s max exposure cadence despite lowering SNR.
Dr. Karovska's observations will be a followup investigation of the central region of CH Cyg and its jet that was discovered a couple of years ago. Observations are requested in order to monitor the state of the system and correlate with the satellite observations. The spectra will provide a context for the HST/Chandra observations and with the other coordinated observations may lead to unexpected results concerning this fascinating object.
CH Cyg RA 19 24 33.07 Dec. +50 14 29.1 (J2000.0). Current Vmag 7.7
Send your spectra for compilation to: christian.buil_at_wanadoo.fr
If possible adopt FITS format (BeSS standard) but .dat (ASCII) are also accepted. For echelle spectra, compile separate ordre in a zip file (optionaly you can also add a orders merged version for more easy visualisation). Add instrument description, spectral range, exposure time and observatory location. Date are in UT.
The spectra file name format is mandatory. Please respect the folowing name structures:
_chcyg_yyyymmdd_fff_yourname.fit
_chcyg_yyyymmdd_fff_yourname.fits
_chcyg_yyyymmdd_fff_yourname.dat
_chcyg_yyyymmdd_fff_yourname.zip
(for echelle seperate order compilation)
Adopt lower case.
(dd_fff is the fractional day of starting observation
in UT)
