M22 es uno de los cúmulos globulares más brillantes. Situado a 10.400 años luz, tiene un tamaño aparente algo mayor que la luna llena.
Es uno de los contados ejemplos de cúmulo globular conteniendo una nebulosa planetaria cuya identificación en la fotografía se debe a Josep M. Gómez-Forrellad.
Se puede ver a simple vista si no se está muy al norte.
Su descubrimiento se atribuye a Abraham Ihle en 1.665.
M22 is one of the brightest globular clusters. Located at merely 10.400 light years has an apparent diameter slightly larger than a full moon.
It is one example of the few globulars containing a planetary nebula which was identified in the image by Josep M. Gómez-Forrellad.
It is a naked eye object if not observed from too northern latitudes.
It is believed to have been observed by Abraham Ihle in 1.665.
