THE B&W QUICKCAM FROM CONNECTIX
The QUICKCAM is a little CCD color camera manufactured by Connectix. You can perform photos and videos up to 320 by 240 in B&W. Unfortunately no more vailable, You could find it only as second hand or on the net. The one I got, was found on IBAZAR (the sell price could reach the price of a new color webcam !)
The main use as webcam could becomes an astrocam, after a few modifications...
It is the only one where the blooming could be disable (the famous yellow wire !) and also the one
At the moment, I used for it as a long time exposure camera, I am finishing the cooling module with peltier cooler, soon more photos will be available.

The first operation, is to open carefully the camera, to be able to extract the electronic card and of course the CCD (Take care of the static discharge!)
You get like that, two electronic cards whose are shown on the phtos already in the new case:
Go to my
quickcam color page to find more details on the case improvement !
And the small CCD (TC211 same as the ST4) :

The first adjustment were more focused on the CCD line up and concentricity adjustment.
At the first attempt, the photos were really blurred, fuzzy, after an accurate adjustment (on the concentricity at least), the result was definitely improved. Some test on the moon, step by step, touching and compressing on the foam around the CCD, fixed the main sharpness problem.
Some exemples with moon photos performed with this camera.

With the experience provided by the color quickcam , the B&W starts (at least) to allow me the long time exposure with the QCV2 software (see on
Astrocam) plenty other softs and modifications could be found there.I just got a JMI NGF-S which one should allow me to avoid to loose the small planet on the so small CCD, with a flip-mirror alreday approved, but now find my first test on the deep sky with M13 et M42, a little "just" but it is only the start !
