Galaxies
Islands of stars - outside of our Milky Way galaxy. Galaxies are the furthest targets we can image.
Any stars in the images are local to our galaxy, similiar to raindrops on a window pane. Each Galaxy takes on a different appearance, if viewed edge on, face on, or obliquely, from Earth.

There is a wide range in size of different galaxies on a CCD chip, the closer galaxies are large on the CCD, while the distant galaxies are small. For example, M31 is nearby, and nearly 5 full moon widths in the sky, whereas M64 is very distant, and about the size of a large crater on the moon from our vantage point

Galaxies can be tough targets. These images range from the early days, up until the latest galaxy images of M31 and M51
