A glimpse to the night sky
A glimpse to the night sky
by Oriol Lehmkuhl & Ivette Rodriguez
Located in the Perseus Arm of the Galaxy in the constellation Cassiopeia, the Heart nebula is a bright nebulae (although a telescope is needed to see it) in a region of the Galaxy where a lot of stars are forming. It lies some 7500 light years away from Earth. The nebula's intense red output and its configuration are driven by the radiation emanating from a small group of stars near the nebula's center. This open cluster of stars known as Melotte 15 contains a few bright stars
The foto was taken using narrowband Ha, [OIII] and [SII] filters during three different nights. The signal of the three different filters was combined into the Hubble color palette where [SII] was assigned to red, Ha to green and [OIII] to blue
