Crescent nebula (NGC6888) and surronding nebula are located at Cygnus constellation at a distance of about 5000 light-years from Earth. Crescent nebula is a 25 light years bubble blown by winds from its central, massive star. In fact, central star of NGC6888 is classified as a Wolf-Rayet starand is shadding its out envelope. A Wolf-rayet star is the last stage of a massive star's life. They are big, hot and bright spewing gas and dust in all directions. In fact, Wolf-Rayet stars radiate so much light and heat, they force their own oter gas shells to flee. As they blow energy at a high rate, their life is short, less than a million years. Then, when their nuclear fuel are consumed, their core collapse and die in an espectacular supernova blast. The foto was taken using narrowband Ha, [OIII] and [SII] filters during three different nights. The signal of the three different filters was combined into a color palette where [SII] was assigned to maroon, Ha to red and [OIII] to cyan Source: NASA/APOD and Asronomy magazine Lens: Megrez 72 APO + FF 0.8x F/stop: 4.8 Exposure: Ha baader filter, 6 x 15 min; OIII 6x15min and 10x15min [SII] (unbinned) Mount: Vixen Sphinx Deluxe Camera: Artemis 4021 Guiding: Throught WO 66 f5.9 with Meade DSI and MaximDL software Location: Majada del Hombro, Huerta del Marquesado, Cuenca, Spain Date: August 1st, 3rd and 4th 2008 Processing: Calibrated and aligned with DSS, stacked with MaximDL and postprocessed with PixInsight 1.2 | 8/11/08 22:08 |
