This nebula is lying abour 3 degree from Deneb, the alpha star of Cygnus constellation. It is located about 1600 light-years from Earth. The North America Nebula and the nearby Pelican Nebula, (IC 5070) are in fact parts of the same interstellar cloud of ionized hydrogen.
