The Object Filter... dialogue box allows you to specify different types of deep sky object that you want to display in the current view. To get information about one of the components of this dialogue box, left click on it in the image below:
To display the object filter dialogue box, click the Object Filter... button on the Deep sky tab in the Options dialogue box.
