These are images of the whole southern SKY with Gemini South telescope on the foreground, images recorded with a thinned CCD camera and nikkor lenses by R.Smith from CTIO.
From R.Smith : "They were taken at Gemini South in the (southern) winter of 2001, using a thermo-electrically cooled SITe 1K running at about -45 to -50C. Typical exposure times are 10-20 seconds and the lenses are Nikor or equivalent. Most of are frames taken as part of a time lapse sequences. One day I'll get around to making that DVD! I spent about a week on Cerro Pachon after a blizzard getting these images. They are taken outside, from the main floor, from the telescope elevation platform, the done and the crane gantry on the roof of the dome. To get the latter, I spent the whole night on a 60cm wide steel walkway in the roof. It was cold and windy!"
