MESSIER; Charles; 1730-1817; FRA

"Astronome de la Marine Royale", Messier was nicknamed by Louis XV the "comet ferret" because he discovered 13 of them. In order not to be lost during his sweeps, he compiled the now famous catalogue of deep sky objects: the MESSIER catalogue (103 nebulae published in 1781).
