Independant observer and discoverer, De Chéseaux established a list of 21 nebulae which was presented by REAUMUR to the "Académie Française des Sciences" in 1746. This list contained 8 personnal discoveries. He was the first to speak about what was to become OLBERS's paradox ("dark night").
