Scientific pursuing various interests, he invented an instrument to find easily the meridian. He shared HALLEY's opinion about nebulae beeing luminous from themselves; he compiled a "nebulous stars" catalogue (PTRAS, 1733) of 16 objects (with only M31 and M7 beeing true objects).
