DUNLOP; James; 1793-1848; GBR

After having constructed telescopes from 1810 (he was worker in a mecanical factory), he became astronomer at Parramatta Observatory in Australia in 1821 with BRISBANE and RUMKER. He published a double star catalogue ("Catalogue of 7835 stars from observations made at the observatory of Parramatta", 1829) as well as a catalogue of nebulae ("A Catalogue of 629 New Nebulae and Cluster of Stars observed at Parramatta in New South Wales", PTRAS vol.118, 1828) containing altough numerous errors of identifications or positions (objects not found afterwards) lead HERSCHEL to retain only 211 objects in his "General Catalogue". He kept on working at Paramatta until 1847.
