After a childhood similar to a typical women's childhood of this period, she left without regret the houseworks of Holland to join her brother William in the UK in 1772. A common image describes Caroline, lightened by a candle, writing down the observations that her brother cried out from outside the house standing at his telescopes (Georges III gave her a 50 pounds grant per year for the help she provided). Unsatisfied with only assisting her brother, she observed herself from 1782 and discovered 8 comets, observed about 100 deep sky objects and discovered 14 new nebulae.
