HEVELCKE (Hevelius); Johannes; 1611-1689; POL

Brewer in Danzig, Hevelcke got interested in astronomy and established a catalogue of 1500 stars. He named the lunar Alps and discovered some "nebulous stars" with his 6-inch refractor (F=49m) mounted on a 50m pole... His list of 16 objects was published in 1690 and contained 14 asterisms and 2 true objects (M31 and M44).
