V339 Del Campaign

Never before in the history of astronomy a nova had such a spectroscopic coverage. Since its discovery in 14th August 2013 until 26th December, almost every day had at least one spectrum of the object in the visible and /or in the near infrarred, resulting in a database of 1100 spectra!!. This campaign was leaded by Steve Shore from the University of Pisa, and the amateur spectroscopists coordinated by François Teyssier from ARAS.

The nova was followed by several observatories such as NOT, Ondrejov, Hubble, XMM,, and a cluster of amateur spectroscopists all around the world.

The page of the campaign is by itself a lesson of novae astrophysics, with step by step explanations and images of what was happening in each phase.

The way this campaign occured is the paradigm of what a collaboration between educated citizens must be: sharing knowledge and time to pruduce science.

The database.

My collaboration:

H-alpha, R=6000

Visible, R=600

Near IR. R=600, the OI line is pumped by Lyman-beta activity
