Planetary Nebulae

Low mass stars up to 10 solar mass (depending on their metallicity) end their lives as planetary nebulae. These are the result of the stellar mass expansion when definitely ended atomic fusion in the core of the dying star. The resulting matter will dissolve in the interstellar medium, enriching it with the elements synthesized by the star plus its envelope of Hydrogen and Helium. In the middle a cooling white dwarf is the remnant core of the ended star.
