Stage of Spectroscopy  OHP, 2008

The stage of spectroscopy OHP 2008, from 18 to 22nd August, took place at the Haute Provence Observatory, and was organized by the CNRS and AUDE association.

The objectives for this stage were:

1- To initiate new spectroscopists in the practice. They learned how to capture and how to process astronomical optical spectra.

2- The share of know-how and experiences acquired, aiming the standardization of procedures for capture and processing, so that coherent results can be achieved among the different astronomers and equipment. Altair, gam Cas, lam Cyg and 42 And spectra were compared. The spectral calibration become more and more demanding due to the collaborations ProAm that in this area is turning fruitful. This year, practical spectroheliography took place too.

3- Several presentations were preformed by astrophysicists, with special reference to the first results of CoRoT proam collaboration on Be stars.

4- Discussion on the state-of-the-art on what concerns the Be stars database  (BeSS). A new tool was presented, ARAS Beam. It will help Be stars observers to prepare their observing sessions. This application selects the most urgent stars to be observed each night, based on criteria such as lack of observation during long time, best position in the sky, outburst, etc.
