3C273 Quasar in Virgo

(RA 12h 29.1m , Dec. +203', variable / 13 mag.)


This is the brightest quasar. At magnitude 13 (variable) it is easy to spot in medium size telescopes about 230' SE of 16 Virginis (see finder chart below and annotated image below).

The above image was taken on January 14, 2002 from Harrowsmith , Ontario using Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera on Celestron Ultima 8 f6.3 telescope. It is composed of seven white exposures (30 sec. each) processed with AIP4WIN.

North is to the left.
