Perseus A Galaxy (NGC1275) and Abell 426 Cluster

(RA 3h 19.8m , Dec. +41°31', 12-16 mag., 30 arcmin.)


Large aperture rich-field telescope will reveal Abell 426 cluster of galaxies about 2°15' NEE of Algol (see finder chart below). Radiogalaxy Perseus A is located at its center. Brightest galaxies visible above are identified in the negative image below (North is to the left).

The above image was taken on January 7, 2002 from Harrowsmith , Ontario using Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera on Celestron Ultima 8 f6.3 telescope, autoguided with Cookbook 211 LDC camera on a piggybacked 500mm f8 telephoto lens. It is composed of ten white exposures (240 sec. each) processed with AIP4WIN.

North is to the left.
