Primary mirror cell and box
Square stainless steel tubing and aluminum plate was obtained from local Metal Supermarket. After steel parts were cut, the frame was welded at the local shop near Harrowsmith. Then other parts were attached to created 18-point flotation cell as shown below:
For primary mirror box, Doug cut pieces of plywood to size on his table saw. They were glued together and light baffle was attached. Box was stained and varnished outside, then painted flat black inside:
In May, Doug helped me make truss blocks out of maple as well. They were attached to the primary mirror box and aligned using aluminum tube trusses (lenght was predicted at this time). Hockey pucks cut in half were attached to light baffle to allow storage of secondary cage on top of mirror box (see secondary cage). Below are views of a finished mirror box showing mirror cell fitted inside as well as dust cover in place:
