Cocoon Nebula (IC5146) and Dark Nebula B168 in Cygnus


This faint emission nebula is located 2°20' SSE of p2 Cygni (see finder chart below). A 2° long complex of dark filaments extending NW and W of Cocoon corresponds to B168 dark nebula.

The above mosaic is composed of 12 tiles. Each tile corresponds to a stack of 4 - 5 exposures (60 sec. each) taken with Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera and Celestron Ultima 8 SCT at f3.0 on October 19, 2000 from Harrowsmith, Ontario. Individual images were processed and stacked using AIP4WINand mosaic was assembled with Corel PhotoPaint 8.
