M107 = NGC6171 ( 16h 32.5m -13°03´, 8.1 mag. )


Mechain discovered this globular cluster in Ophiuchus in April 1782. It is located about 19,200 ly away. To find M107, point you binoculars or a scope 2°40' SSW of z Ophiuchi (see finder chart below).

The above image was taken on May 29, 1998 from my backyard observatory in Sooke, BC. Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera was used on Ultima 8 f6.3 telescope autoguided with Cookbook 211 LDC camera on piggybacked 500mm f8 telephoto lens. The image is composed of white integrations (5 x 120 sec. each) processed with AIP4WIN.

North is to the right.
