M56 = NGC6779 ( 19h 16.6m +30°11´, 8.2 mag. )

This globular cluster in Lyra was discovered by Messier on January 23, 1779. Located about 31,000 ly away, it measures 60 ly across. It can be found almost halfway between Albireo (b Cygni) and g Lyrae (see finder chart below).

The above image was taken on August 28, 1998 from Sooke, BC. Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera was used on Ultima 8 f6.3 telescope autoguided with Cookbook 211 LDC CCD camera on a piggybacked 500mm f8 telephoto lens. It is composed of white exposures (8 x 120 sec.) as well as cyan, magenta and yellow-filtered integrations (3 x 120 sec. each) processed with AIP4WIN. Resulting color image was then adjusted with Corel PhotoPaint in Lab color space.
