Merope Nebula (NGC1435) in Pleiades

(RA 3h 46.1m , Dec. +23°47', 30 arcmin.)

This large reflection nebula fans south of Merope in Pleiades. Despite opinions to the contrary, it is not too difficult to notice in rich field telescope under dark sky.

The above image was taken on September 8, 1999 from Sooke, BC. Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera was used on Celestron Ultima 8 f3.0 SCT.

Ten white integrations (240 sec. each) as well as cyan, magenta and yellow-filtered exposures (4 x 240 sec. each) were combined with AIP4WIN. Resulting color image was further adjusted in Lab color space using Corel PhotoPaint 8.

North is to the right.
