Planetary Nebula NGC1535 in Eridanus

(RA 4h 14.2m , Dec. -12°44', 9.6 mag., >18" in diameter)

This bright planetary nebula has noticably bluish disk. It can be found almost 4° NEE of g Eridani or 5° S of o2 Eridani (see finder chart below). o2 Eridani is a wide double star containing - its fainter component is actually a close dougle itself composed of low mass 10.8 mag. red dwarf and 9.7 mag. white dwarf. That last component is the easiest white dwarf to observe with small telescopes!

The image above was taken on October 29, 2000 from Harrowsmith, Ontario. Cookbook 245 LDC camera was used on Celestron Ultima 8 SCT with eyepiece projection to achieve f20. White exposures (15 x 30 sec.) were combined with cyan, magenta and yellow-filtered images (4 x 30 sec. each) using AIP4WIN software and the color image was furter adjusted in Lab color space with Corel PhotoPaint 8.

Only a quater of the original Cookbook frame is shown. North is to the left.

Map created in Guide 7.0 - 7°45' x 7°45'. North is up.
