NGC3628 in Leo
(RA 11h 20.3m , Dec. +13° 36', 9.5 mag., 14 x 4 arcmin.)
This bright edge-on spiral galaxy in Leo was missed by Messier despite being a close neighbour of M65 and M66. Whole trio is located just 1° E of 73 Leonis (see finder chart below).
The above image was taken on Jan. 30, 2000 from Sooke, BC. Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera was used on Celestron Ultima 8 f3.0 telescope. The image is composed of eight white integrations (-IR filter only, each exposed for 240 sec.) processed with AIP4WIN.
North is to the right.
