Globular cluster NGC6712 in Scutum

(RA 18h 53.1m , Dec. -8° 42', 8.2 mag., 7.2 arcmin.)


This nice globular cluster is unfortunately visible against the bright background of the Scutum Star Cloud. Telescope will reveal it about 4°30' E of a Scuti (see finder chart below).

The above image was taken on August 10, 2001 from Harrowsmith, Ontario with Cookbook 245 LDC camera and Celestron Ultima 8 SCT at f6.3. Imaging telescope was autoguided with Cookbook 211 LDC camera attached to 500mm f8 guidescope. White exposures (10 x 240 sec.) were combined with single cyan, magenta and yellow-filtered images (240 sec. each) using AIP4WIN software, then the image was furter adjusted using Lab color space with Corel PhotoPaint 8.

North is to the left.
