Snake Nebula (B72) in Ophiuchus

(RA 17h 23.5m , Dec. -23° 38', 30 arcmin.)


This meandering filament of dark nebulosity extends from the Northern tip of Pipe Nebula. It is located 1°15' NNE of q Ophiuchi (see finder chart below).

The above image was taken on August 23, 2001 from Harrowsmith, Ontario. Cookbook 245 LDC camera was used on Celestron Ultima 8 f3.0 SCT. White exposures (10 x 120 sec.) as well as cyan, magenta and yellow-filtered integrations (2 x 120 sec. each) were combined using AIP4WIN. Color image was then adjusted in Lab color space using Corel PhotoPaint 8.

North is to the left.
