Hind's Variable Nebula (NGC1554) in Taurus

(RA 4h 21.8m , Dec. +19°32')

NGC1554 is located about 4°30' NW of Aldebaran (a Tauri - see finder chart below). Like Hubble's Variable Nebula, it also changes shape and brightness. It is illuminated by a very young variable star T Tauri (located just below the nebula in the image above).

The above image was taken on January 19, 2002 and February 17, 2002 from Harrowsmith, Ontario. Cookbook 245 LDC camera was used on Celestron Ultima 8 f6.3 SCT autoguided with Cookbook 211 on a piggybacked 500mm f8 telephoto lens. Forty white exposures (120 sec. each) were combined using AIP4WIN software.

North is to the left.

Map created in Guide 7.0 - 7°45' x 7°45'. North is up.
