Evolution of a Solar Prominence

Exposure date May 7, 2003

During last Mercury transit (May 7, 2003) a large prominence was visible close to the Sun limb. This sequence was taken using an inexpensive webcam Philips Vesta Pro Scan at the prime focus of a refractor 80/900 fitted with a Coronado ASP-60 Ha solar filter. A series of 20 seconds AVI files were taken every 20 minutes and then the 50 most detailed frames of each film were selected and manually stacked to get six good s/n shots to process.
