BRIEF DESCRIPTION
65.3_N_145.3_E_
Gamow is Ridge Section 79 and named after a 129 km impact crater on the lunar Far Side. It is located in the northern hemisphere to the southeast of the huge walled plain Schwarzschild (Section 78). This is a worn and eroded feature, with a rim that has been battered and overlain by multiple impacts. Gamow V is attached to the western exterior, and the joined crater pair Gamow A and Gamow B overlie the northeastern side. The eastern rim is the most damaged section, while the rim to the west is free from impacts. The western inner wall does display a fine radial groove texture, but is otherwise nearly featureless. Near the midpoint is a ghost-crater feature consisting of just the rim projecting up through the otherwise relatively level surface. The cropped USGS chart to the right shows more terrain than Ridge section 79.  In our section Karpinskiy is to the northeast with Schjellerup just southeast of it. Oberth is just north of center with Yamamoto a little southeast. Part of the huge crater D'Alembert (Section 87) is at the bottom of our chart. (Credit: Some of the information used in the section feature descriptions was obtained from wikipedia.org.  Section 79 and this directory was created by Fran Ridge and Ned Haskin of The Lunascan Project).
