Brief

One interesting areas in Section 72 near the lunar south pole is the huge crater, Longomontanus, the huge walled plain which is 145 km wide. The foreshortening close to the Moon's limb and deep shadows make observation and mapping very difficult, but the Lunar Orbiter image at right is an overhead view with incredible detail.
