| Parts of Section 43 & 44 are shown above. Mosting is the distinct crater located at the top of the photo and is 26 km in diameter, 2760 m deep. It is situated close to the center of the lunar disc and is easily observed under any angle of illumination. It is well-known because of its value as the base reference point in the system of selenographic co-ordinates. The arrow in the image above points to Mosting A, a crater only 13 km in diameter. The awesome close-up from Lunar Orbiter 4 shows the well-lit Mosting crater SE of the shadowed crater Sommering. |
