The Magnitude Alert Project (MAP) is a rapid announcement program that highlights asteroids found in predicted magnitude error 
and look after the follow-up of these asteroids until the confirmation of the H magnitude discrepancy.
This is a research project under the Association of Lunar Planetary Observers Minor planet Section.

CONTENT OF THE MAP DATABASE: 520 Asteroids and 7125 individual measures ( sometimes put together in a same line )

This update of the MAP Database contains 520 asteroids, then 25 more than the previous database on May 31,2009
In addition to the measures of the 25 new asteroids entered in the MAP database, many new measures have been made for 19 old MAP objects.
490 complementary measures ( 407 CCD measures and 83 visual measures ) were made since the last update, 9 months ago. 
The MAP database nows contains 7125 measures, used or not for the revision of the H magnitudes.  
All the good measures are taken in account to calculate an averaged difference of H magnitude for each asteroid, between the H MAP magnitude and the H MPC

NB : The red total numbers ( Total actual MAP objects < Total 2008 MAP objects ) show the increase of accuracy of the MPC H magnitudes
       Independently of the increasing total of the MAP objects, the total number of H MAP differences < 0.2 mag highly increases.
For 288 of them (55,4% of the total), the active lightcurve makers have permitted the knowledge of the data of asteroid lightcurve amplitudes.

Since September 2008, the Minor Planet Center changed the H magnitude of 53922 numbered asteroids, up to January 31,2010
The continual changes of the official H magnitudes also need the necessity to modify the averaged differences of H magnitudes of the MAP objects.
All the modifications of the changed H magnitudes of the 53922 numbered asteroids are included in a zipped Excel file downloable at :

For the MAP objects concerned by a change of H magnitude, we continue to calculate the difference of H magnitude with the H magnitude
of the first MAP measure(s), but a final correction is made to take in account the change of the H magnitude by the MPC. Frequently, a new 
averaged difference of H magnitude is found.
The MAP has 520 asteroids in its database. Among them, 141 objects already have their H mag concerned by the recent MPC corrections, at least partially :

For the asteroids seen at least during 3 oppositions, the new H MPC are similar to about 48% ( 0.0 to 0.1 mag of difference ) with the H MAP
The causes of the differences may be : erroneous observed magnitudes,  R MPC magnitudes marked V, impact of high light variability
Nevertheless, only 26 averaged differences of H magnitudes increased after the MPC modifications ( 18.4% of the 141 H modifications made by the MPC )

Among the 520 astéroides of the database, 132 of them -  25,4% of the total - are no need of a follow-up due to :
- the similarity between the H magnitude of the MAP and a new H from the MPC
- or the averaged discrepancy of the H magnitude of the MAP reduced to nearly 0, after new complementary measures.
- or by the existence of a half-amplitude of light variability higher than the averaged discrepancy of the H MAP magnitude and probably 
responsible of the first differences of H magnitudes. Some of these concerned objects may be have a discrepancy of H magnitude,
but it would be difficult to extract the difference of H magnitude from the light-variability. Then these objects are not priority....
The priority objects are about 90 other MAP asteroids which already have been observed during at least 2 oppositions. 
For 36 of them, the MAP already has a good estimation of the difference of the H magnitude. They have a "status" marked in blue in the MAP Database.
Lastly, Roger DYMOCK, Richard MILES (BAA) and Herbert RAAB (creator of the "Astrometrica" software) reached to obtain a better accuracy 
of the unfiltered CCD measures of magnitude, thank's to the possible use of the stellar CMC 14 catalog by Astrometrica.

The magnitude types CMu and CMr [used with R-V = + 0.4 mag] are the types of measures made with this new method, in the MAP Database.
The 90 MAP asteroids already observed during two oppositions wait their third observed opposition to obtain probably the definitive confirmation 
of their H magnitude difference and the publication of the results !
We shall be very interested by your new measures of the MAP objects in the future !

Cette mise à jour de la base du MAP comprend 520 astéroïdes, soit 25 de plus que la base précédente du 31 mai 2009
Outre les mesures des 25 nouveaux astéroides entrés dans la base du MAP, de nouvelles mesures ont été faites pour 19 anciens objets de la base
490 mesures complémentaires ( 407 mesures CCD et 83 mesures visuelles ) ont été faites depuis la dernière mise à jour de la base, il a 9 mois.
La base du MAP contient à présent 7125 mesures, utilisées ou non pour la révision des magnitudes H. 
Toutes les bonnes mesures sont prises en compte pour le calcul de la différence de magnitude H pour chaque astéroïde, entre la magnitude H du MAP 
et la magnitude du MPC.

NB : Les totaux rouges ( Total des objets actuels MAP < Total des objets MAP 2008 ) montrent l'amélioration de la précision des magnitudes H du MPC.
       Indépendamment du nombre croissant d'objets du MAP, le nombre total number de differences H MAP < 0.2 mag augmente fortement.
Pour 288 d'entre eux (55.4% du total), les actifs faiseurs de courbes de lumière ont déjà permis la connaissance des données d'amplitudes de courbes
de lumière des petites planètes.

Depuis septembre 2008, le Minor Planet Center a changé la magnitude H de 53922 astéroïdes numérotés, au 31 janvier 2010
Les rectifications continuelles des magnitudes H officielles nécessitent aussi de modifier les différences moyennées de magnitudes H des objets du MAP
Toutes les modifications des changements de magnitudes H des 53922 astéroides concernés sont incluses dans un fichier Excel zippé, chargeable à :

Pour les objets du MAP concernés par un changement de magnitude H, nous continuons de calculer la difference de magnitude H par 
rapport à la magnitude H des premières mesures, mais une correction finale est faite pour prendre en compte le changement de magnitude 
absolue H. Parfois, un nouvel écart moyen de magnitude H est trouvé.
Le MAP a 520 astéroïdes dans sa database. Parmi eux, 141 objets ont vu leur mag H concernée au moins partiellement par les corrections récentes du MPC :

Pour les astéroïdes mesurés au moins sur 3 oppositions, les nouvelles H du MPC sont similaires à 48% ( 0.0 à 0.1 mag of difference ) avec les mag H du MAP
Les causes des écarts peuvent être : des mesures de magnitudes erronées,  des mesures R du MPC marquées V, l'impact d'une grande variabilité de lumière.
Néanmoins, seules 26 différences moyennées de magnitude H augmentairent après les modifications MPC ( 18.4% des 141 modifications H par le MPC )

- soit de la différence moyennée de magnitude H du MAP ramenée à 0 du fait de mesures complémentaires
- ou encore, par l'existence d'une demi-amplitude de variation de lumière supérieure à la différence MAP et probablement responsable des écarts initiaux
de mag H du MAP. Certains des objets concernés ont peut-être un écart MAP mais celui-ci pouvant être dur à extraire de la variabilité, ces objets ne 
sont pas prioritaires.
A contrario, plus de 90 autres astéroides MAP ont déjà été observés à 2 oppositions, dont 36 avec une très bonne estimation de l'écart de magnitude H. 
Ils sont prioritaires pour le futur et sont indiqués avec un "status" en bleu dans la base du MAP
Enfin, Roger DYMOCK, Richard MILES (BAA) et Herbert RAAB (créateur du logiciel "Astrometrica") ont réussi à obtenir une meilleure 
précision de mesures de magnitudes CCD non filtrées, grace au possible usage du catalogue stellaire CMC 14 par Astrometrica.

Q1 = Quality 1 of lightcurve parameters  = Very tentative result, may be completely wrong.
Q2 = Quality 2 of lightcurve parameters  = Reasonably secure result, based on over half coverage of the lightcurve.

Final # H MAP and MPC < or = 0.1 mag => Out of MAP/Hors MAP when a new H MPC confirms a H MAP 
Nota: In the Database, the data ( type of magnitude, observed magnitude, …) sometimes is surrounded by a rectangle of color:
grey when a measure is not taken in account ( GSC measure, bad light band,…or uncertain measure )
yellow when the data is not yet received from the Observer, or when the furnished data perhaps is false.
