Red component of a color image, this filter has moreover a ideal position on the spectrum : it's an efficient compromise between the technical interests of long wavelenghts and those of visible wavelenghts. The filter is very interesting, apart of its trichromy vocation because it produces images with an excellent technical quality.

INTEREST

- Great quantity of light available
- Excellent image definition (resolution is better than in near IR)
- Good image steadiness
- Generally reproduces the majority of the details on a given planet.

PROBLEMS

- Very slight loss of resolution from green light.

Jupiter
3rd october 2011 - Gregory 250, PLA-Mx
Excellent filter, revealing all the details of the main cloud layers. If contrast is a bit weaker than in near-IR, the resolution is better and brown cyclonic spots are visible (NEB barges, STB spots...)

Saturn
1 april 2006 - Mewlon 210, Lumenera LU075M
Again very interesting for this planet, revealing all the spots.

Mars
18 november 2005 - Mewlon 210, Lumenera LU075M
The filter reveals the surface of the planet with a few clouds (dust clouds, but the thicker white clouds might still appear). Contrast is however less important than in infrared. Polar caps are sharply seen, making this filter ideal for their study..
