LP 630 SCHULER

This is a Schött glass filter RG630. A very good filter for planetary observations, as long wavelenghts are often the most interestings, because it transmits a great quantity of light. It's also possible to use it with the W47 to make a true IR-pass filter. Equivalent filters : RG610, W25... Note that the filter is noticeably more sensitive to seeing effect than any IR or R alone filters.

INTEREST

- Great quantity of light available
- Very good image sharpness
- Use it with the W47 to make an IR-pass filter

PROBLEMS

- Sensitive to seeing effect, more than red light alone or IR light alone.
- Moderate loss of resolution, but less than in IR
- This filter isn't sold anymore but similar ones are easy to find.

Saturn
27 february 2005 - Mewlon 210, ATK-1HS
The LP630 gives a very good atmospheric penetration and can reveal every spot on the planet, wether dark or bright (none is seen here)

Jupiter

22 april 2006 - Mewlon 210, Lumenera LU075M
Gives high resolution views of the main clouds of the planet. The image is similar to red light, but with slight IR effect (for example, belts are a bit less dark)
