Tripoli ? Tradition ou regrettable concours de circonstances (c'est à chacun de nos voyages la même chose...), c'est d'une France entre grèves et manifestations qu'il nous faudra tout d'abord péniblement s'extraire pour quitter la "civilisation" pour un pays peu engageant dans l'imaginaire collectif bercé de "vérités" médiatiques. Une heure d'attente d'un train bloqué par l'expression "démocratique" anti-CPE dans la nette fraîcheur du mois de mars nous fera craindre le pire pour rejoindre l'aéroport Charles de Gaulle. Ce n'était qu'un apéritif. Il faudra 24h pour parcourir près de 2000 km à vol d'oiseau : vol annulé, report sur un vol suivant finalement retardé, report sur un vol d'un partenaire de la compagnie italienne qui ne permettra pas d'assurer la correspondance nous vaudront un séjour dans un grand hôtel à Rome après 3 heures de négociations avec des interlocuteurs attentifs mais d'une totale inertie. Quelques maigres heures de repos avant de rebrousser chemin vers Milan sur un vol matinal (06h30...) qui nous permettra d'embarquer sur un vol vers la Libye. Inutile de vérifier le numéro de la porte d'embarquement, quelques bagages à main trahissent l'objet du voyage de certains qui échangent déjà des avis techniques en s'appuyant sur un rapport de Fred Espenak...
As usual, we experienced a new travel from a France between strike and politicaly-manipulated demonstrations against a new social bill. We spent about one hour to get our train to Paris and feared not to be on time at the airport for our flight... ...but... finally we had to wait, walk and argue 24h-long for a small 2000km trip : the first flight was canceled, the second delayed, the third didn't offer the opportunity to make a transit the same day in Rome to Tripoli. After about 3 hours negociating with too much people, we slowly (very slowly ; it seems to be a national traditional method to fix any problem with the foreigners) obtained the right to sleep a very few hours in a great hotel before our first-in-the-morning flight (06:30) back to Milan to take a plane for Libya. No doubt about the boarding gate : most of the passengers came from the USA or European countries, some cabin luggages were familiar for amateur astronomers and a few were discussing about Fred Espenak's report...
24 mars 2006. Tripoli ! Premier contact avec la Libye, le passage à l'immigration : la réputation de lenteur et l'angoisse des complications administratives sont effacées par cinq minutes de confirmation d'un visa obtenu par avance, avec le sourire et quelques mots de bienvenue en français. A la sortie les bagages attendent déjà sur le tapis tournant... Un taxi plutôt diligent permettra de gagner l'hôtel Al Kabir (au standard occidental) en plein centre, à deux pas de la Medina, avec vue sur la Méditerranée où nous retrouverons un groupe d'amis français, allemands, australiens, anglais et néo-zélandais.
First contact with Libya, the immigration desk. We were afraid about how many time we would have to wait... but we only spent about 5 minutes for the right stamps on our passports with a few kind words in french that meant "welcome in our country". Thanks to our first more-than-fast taxi (but a bit expensive ; sometimes it's the way things are), we reached the Al Kabir hotel (western standard, very close to the Medina, in the center of city, with view on the Mediterranean sea) where we met our group (one day after our rendez-vous). In late, but happy, to see our french, german, english, aussie and kiwi friends.
