A B&W image and a colors Image of the same "area" of the sky...

... after a necessary "harmonization" of the color image we obtains...

... a superposable image with B&W image.

The Process :

Target : To apply to an B&W image, the colors of another image, while preserving only the details of the first.

Interest : The result is influenced little by the quality of the image color. Even if the colors image is noisy or misfocused or other defects ... in certain limits of course, the final result will be good as far as the B&W image is good.

In practice it's very usefull when you have tywo similar camera (webcam ; DSI ; etc ...), one B&W chip the other colors chip ... Thus you avoid the "harmonization" step.

Copy the colors image and past it as a new layer in the B&W image ...
Align if needs.

Choose "Color" in the "Blending mode" list ...
Apply a Gaussian blur to the color layer.
N.B.: The final result depend of the value of the blur applied. It is wise to make several tests and to evaluate the result on the image...
For my part I obtain correct images in the fork of 5 to 7 pixels (bluring "degree").

We'll get something like this ...

... magic, isn't it ?

Completion

"to complete" our image we can modify the opacity of the "coloured fuzzy mask"...

... and/or to add some adjustment layers ...

... This should give us this kind of result...
But better obviously.
