It was visible primarily from the Eastern Hemisphere as well as eastern South America (Partial Lunar Eclipse, August, 16 2008). Greatest eclipse occurred at 21:10:06 UT when the eclipse magnitude reached 0.8076. The timings of the major phases of the eclipse are listed below. Penumbral Eclipse Begins: 18:24:49 UT Partial Eclipse Begins: 19:36:07 UT Greatest Eclipse: 21:10:09 UT Partial Eclipse Ends: 22:44:16 UT Penumbral Eclipse Ends: 23:55:25 UT The Moon’s trajectory took it through the northern umbral shadow, resulting in a partial eclipse that lasted 3 hours 8 minutes. At mid-eclipse the Moon's northern limb passed 5.9 arc-minutes outside the umbra's northern edge. The Moon's southern edge was then 16.5 arc-minutes from the shadow's centre. The Partial Lunar Eclipse was observed from Central Portugal. All images were obtained with a FS128 F/8.1 Takahashi Apochromatic refractor and a Canon 350D (exposures from 0.5 to 5 s during the greatest partial eclipse). Observing conditions were excellent (Clear skies and very good seeing). ![]() Full image (Partial Lunar Eclipse 20080816). Takahashi FS128 F/8.1, Canon 350D, ISO 400, 2.5 s (21:10 UT).
