The purpose of these maps is to obtain a synthetic sight of the various observations realized during each solar rotation. The positions in latitude and longitude are given in heliographic degrees. Each Rotation is numbered. The map with the number 1 began on January 1-st, 1854 at 12 o'clock UT.
I drew there the position of the main sunspots and filaments. Sunspots observed in the wing of the ionized calcium line (K1v) are indicated by triangles. Spots observed in the hydrogen line (Ha) are indicated by circles. The size of the symbols is coarsely representative of the size of sunspots.
The observed filaments are drawn as simple lines, without effects of reinforcement. When they deviate from the centre of the disc, filaments can present a strong 3D effect; I thus chose to locate position preferentially with regard to their feet.
The days of observation are indicated in the top of the graph. A colored vertical hyphen indicates the longitude of the central meridian at the moment of the observation. This color is used to draw all the elements observed on this date. One will thus find spots or filaments observed in various dates. The progression of dates is represented by colours going from the blue to the red (passing by orange, yellow, green... Spectroscopy obliges!).
