Softwares used to do astrophotography

  • Artemis Capture (Atik)

  • Software provided with the Atik 314L+ camera. Very good software, easy to use. You can program exposures with filter wheel driving etc.

  • PHD2 Guiding

  • Free software. It allows to guide the mount with the LodeStar Starlight Xpress CCD camera.

  • IC Capture

  • Software provide with the Imaging Source CCD camera, for taking pictures of planets.

  • IRIS

  • Free software. Processing astronomy images. It is very not easy to use,
difficult, but well, it seems to be a reference. However, you have a solution if you don't know how to use it! I wrote a tutorial to help processing images with this software: click here !

  • GIMP

  • Free software. Advance photo processing, similar to Photoshop from Adobe, but free (open source). Great software, essential.

  • Celestron TheSky

  • Logiciel fourni avec le téléscope C8. Carte du ciel utile, mais je ne m'en sert plus depuis que j'ai StarMap sur iPhone. Design un peu limite à mon goût !

  • Digital photo professional (Canon)

  • Software provided with the Canon reflex camera. Allows to manages pictures of the Canon. It provides all information about the pictures, and can convert them to other formats, or rename them.

  • EOS Utility (Canon)

  • Software provided with the Canon reflex camera. Managing the camera, driving the camera etc. Useful to program sequences of pictures.

  • LodeStar (Starlight Xpress)

  • Software provided with the LodeStar CCD camera. Allows to drive the LodeStar.

  • Softwares for iPhone :

    • Starmap 2

    • Awesome software for iPhone (15€). I use it at night to localize objects in the sky. I highly recommand it. It also to enter its own equipment configuration, and to display the simulated field view. It is very ergonomic, we can zoom with fingers, have all information on the objects and their image, and it can automatically calculate the current time and location.

    • Compass

    • Free software, compass for iPhone, it also gives the geographical coordinates (GPS).

  • Softwares for iPad :

    • Starmap HD

    • Awesome software for iPad (15€). I use it at night to localize objects in the sky. I highly recommand it. It is more comfortable on the iPad than on the iPhone, however I now only use the iPhone version, because it is easier to carry (in my pocket).
