NGC4762 Galaxy in Virgo
(RA 12h 52.9m , Dec. +11° 14', 10.3 mag., 9.1 x 2.2 arcmin.)
RASC Observer's Handbook lists that one as the "flattest galaxy known". However, CCD image reveals that this galaxy has very faint and considerably warped outer regions. NGC4762 is located about 2°15' W of e Virginis (see Virgo Cluster Map and the detailed chart below).
The above image was taken on April 28, 2001 from Harrowsmith, Ontario. Cookbook 245 LDC camera was used on Celestron Ultima 8 SCT f6.3 telescope autoguided with Cookbook 211 LDC camera on a piggybacked 500mm f8 telephoto lens. Three white integrations (240 sec. each) were processed with AIP4WIN.
