Veil Nebula (NGC6960) North of 52 Cygni

(RA 20h 45.7m , Dec. +30°43', 70 x 6 arcmin.)

NGC6960 corresponds to Western arc of Veil Nebula. Bright filaments correspond to a shock wave expanding through the intersteller medium (from the left to the right in this image). It sweeps central region relatively free of interfering dust and gas - notice more numerous faint stars visible on one side of the filaments. The above image corresponds to the area just North of 52 Cygni (see finder chart below).

The abobe mosaic was created from 3 tiles composed of 54 images taken on July 28 & 29 and Aug. 2, 1998 from Sooke, BC. Cookbook 245 LDC CCD camera was used on Ultima 8 f6.3 telescope autoguided with Cookbook 211 LDC camera attached to a piggybacked 500mm f8 telephoto lens. For each tile white exposures (6 x 4 min.) as well as cyan, magenta and yellow-filtered integrations(4 x 4 min. each) were combined in AIP4WIN. Mosaic was then assembled with Corel PhotoPaint 8 and color image was further adjusted in Lab color model.

North is up.

Map created in Guide 7.0 - 7°45' x 10°. North is up.
