SMC and 47 Tucanae
Field centered on R.A. 00h 38' & Dec. -71° 40'
This is the smaller of the two little sisters of our galaxy. The Small Magellanic Cloud (NGC292) is an irregular galaxy large about 5°, enough to appear to the naked eye as a little cloud. The bight and large globular cluster next to the SMC is NGC104, known as 47 Tucanae and even if smaller than Omega Centauri it is still a remarkable object, about 50' in size (more than twice than M13!). Another little globular cluster is NGC362 just above the SMC |
