| This page is about a GOTO system for a T400 telescope. Here is the setup I use to test the electronics:
The motors at top are 24 volts DC industrial motors ,from Parvex, salvaged from a carbon fiber roving machine I built years ago. They are fitted with a 1000 "points" (4000 quadrature discrete positions) encoder and a tachymeter generator (not used here). They are attached to a 1:36 ratio worm and wheel reducer. At bottom right, a #497 Autostar handpad and a #494 Autostar handpad from my ETX-70. The printed circuits carries voltage regulators at left, power amplifiers to the top, and two modified Meade DS cards. The circuitry at right will be used to implement a clone of a Meade #909 cable, using a Microchip PIC 16F628 and a ST Microelectronics L293 power switch. This prototype's schematics are available as a PDF file. In this photograph, the system is supposed to be tracking Uranus, under control of the #494 Autostar handpad. |
